The Affordable Care Act

(also known as ACA)

If people have the following types of insurance they do not have to get ACA coverage:

  • Insurance through their employer
  • Medicaid or Chip
  • Tricare or Medicare

Penalties are imposed on people that qualify for the ACA but refuse to enroll in it. The penalties increase yearly. Tax credits for the ACA are structured to protect people from spending more than a set portion of their income on coverage. The amount of the tax credit depends on the applicant’s income and cost of the coverage.

10 essential benefits that each ACA plan covers:

  • Ambulatory
  • Emergency Services
  • Hospitalization
  • Maternity or new born care
  • Mental health services
  • Prescription drug
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Laboratory services
  • Preventative and wellness care
  • Pediatric services
