Examples of Questions We Hear
The two COVID-19 vaccines currently approved for emergency use do not contain any form of the virus, so there is no risk of it causing the disease. The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines both use messenger RNA (mRNA), which is a synthetic genetic code, to provoke an immune response. The mRNA never enters the nucleus of the cell, which is where DNA lives, so it does not affect a person’s DNA.
The COVID-19 vaccines followed a well-established clinical trial regimen that is required by the Food and Drug Administration for any new drug to be released to the public. If you take medication for diabetes or high blood pressure, those drugs were put through the same process. The only difference with COVID-19 vaccines is the wait times for independent reviews of the testing data were accelerated – essentially, they cut through the red tape to get the vaccines ready for the public sooner because of the pandemic.
COVID-19 vaccines are supported by a federal program because the country is facing a public health crisis, and it is vital that everyone gets vaccinated for us to beat this virus once and for all. No-cost vaccines, paid for by Operation Warp Speed are intended to help keep the whole country running.

MISINFORMATION AFFECTS BLACK POPULATIONS
Many Black Americans have hesitancies toward the COVID-19 vaccines. Unfortunately, where the vaccination rates are low, the impacts of the virus have been more severe.
- Black individuals are more likely than the general population to test positive for COVID.
- Black people are also more likely to be hospitalized for COVID.
- Children of color are more likely to be hospitalized due to COVID-19, as well. (And they have higher rates life-threatening complications from COVID).
- Over 20% of reported Covid-19 deaths in the U.S. are African American as of May 20, even though Black people make up roughly 13% of the U.S. population, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“All you need to do is look at the numbers. You’ll see that when Black people get COVID, they have worse outcomes because many are not vaccinated.”
Dr. Michael C. Lucien
MD medical director of the UC Davis Heath Community Physicians Group
The COVID-19 vaccine protects people from hospitalization and death. Without vaccines, people are at higher risk for complications.
Those who get COVID-19 are at higher risk of heart attack and stroke.
Unvaccinated people are being hospitalized and are dying in greater numbers than those who are vaccinated and have received the COVID booster.
